Your engagement session is much more than a photoshoot.
It's your opportunity to slow down, celebrate this exciting season of your lives, and create beautiful memories before the wedding day.
For many couples, it's also the first time being professionally photographed together. That's completely normal — and exactly why engagement sessions are so valuable.
As your photographer, this session gives us the chance to get to know one another before the wedding. You'll become comfortable in front of the camera, learn how I guide and pose naturally, and arrive on your wedding day feeling confident instead of nervous.
The result? More genuine smiles, more relaxed moments, and photographs that truly feel like you.
Why Have an Engagement Session?
I typically recommend scheduling your engagement session 3–6 months before your wedding.
This gives you plenty of time to use the photographs for:
• Save-the-date cards • Wedding invitations • Your wedding website • Guest book • Reception décor • Framed prints for your home
Scheduling early also provides more flexibility if weather requires us to reschedule.
"Your engagement session is where you learn to forget the camera is there."
Choosing the Perfect Location
The best location isn't necessarily the most famous — it's the one that reflects your personalities.
Some of my favorite engagement session locations around Houston include:
Hermann Park — Beautiful gardens, tree-lined paths, bridges, and timeless scenery.
Rice University — Classic architecture, elegant walkways, and one of Houston's most popular engagement photography locations.
Buffalo Bayou Park — A wonderful mix of downtown skyline views and natural landscapes.
Memorial Park — Perfect for couples who love a relaxed, outdoors feel.
Downtown Houston — Bold architecture, city lights, and a sophisticated urban atmosphere.
Wherever we choose, my goal is to create photographs that feel authentic rather than overly posed.
What Time of Day Is Best?
Lighting makes an enormous difference in photography.
That's why I almost always recommend scheduling engagement sessions during Golden Hour — the hour just before sunset.
☀Why I Love Golden Hour
Soft, flattering light
Warm, golden skin tones
Beautiful backgrounds
A romantic atmosphere
Natural-looking photographs
If you're planning a morning session, sunrise can be equally beautiful and often offers quieter locations.
What Should You Bring?
A little preparation goes a long way.
Consider bringing:
• A second outfit • Comfortable walking shoes • Water • Touch-up makeup • Hairbrush or comb • Ring box • Blanket • Flowers • Your dog (if you'd like them included) • Any meaningful personal items
Keeping everything in one small bag makes outfit changes quick and easy.
Do We Need to Know How to Pose?
Not at all.
This is one of the questions I hear most often — and I want you to know: you don't need modeling experience or perfectly practiced poses.
I'll guide you throughout the entire session with simple prompts and natural direction. Instead of focusing on stiff poses, I'll encourage you to walk together, laugh, talk, hold hands, and simply enjoy being together.
Those natural interactions create photographs that feel genuine and timeless.
"Don't worry about looking at the camera in every photograph. Some of the most meaningful images happen when you're focused entirely on each other instead of the lens."
Can We Bring Our Dog?
Absolutely!
Your dog is part of your story, and many couples love including them for a portion of the session.
If you plan to bring your pet:
• Bring treats • Bring water • Use a simple leash • Consider bringing someone who can take your dog home after a few photographs
This allows us to include your furry family member while still giving you time for romantic portraits together.
What If It Rains?
Weather is one of the few things we can't control.
If rain is expected, we'll simply work together to choose another date that provides the best possible conditions.
My priority is creating beautiful photographs — not rushing through a session in less-than-ideal weather.
How Long Does a Session Last?
Most engagement sessions last 60–90 minutes.
This gives us enough time to:
• Explore multiple areas • Capture a variety of poses • Change outfits • Enjoy the experience without feeling rushed
The best photographs often happen toward the end of the session — once you've relaxed and forgotten the camera is there.
Preparing for Your Session
A few simple preparations can make a big difference.
The day before your session:
• Steam your outfits • Charge your phone • Get plenty of rest • Stay hydrated • Avoid last-minute shopping for clothes • Double-check the meeting location • Bring anything meaningful you'd like included
Most importantly — come ready to have fun.

Enjoy the Experience
Your engagement session shouldn't feel like a photoshoot.
It should feel like a date.
We'll walk, talk, laugh, explore beautiful locations, and capture your relationship as naturally as possible.
The goal isn't perfection — it's connection.
Years from now, I want you to look back at these photographs and remember exactly how this season of your life felt.
